The first step to convert the signal from analog to digital is to filter out the higher frequency component of the signal. This make things easier downstream to convert this signal. Waveform coding is a digital signal processing technique in which an analog signal is represented by directly encoding its sampled waveform values, aiming to preserve the original signal's shape as closely as possible after reconstruction by the decoder. For coding speech at low bit rates, a waveform coder of prescribed configuration is optimized by exploiting both statistical characterization of speech waveforms and properties of hearing.
