Proc is an essential concept in Ruby and a core of its functional programming features. The purpose of blocks/procs (we'll get to the difference shortly) is to be able to pass behavior rather than data. With "regular" method calls, you're passing data to the method. A Ruby proc (short for procedure) is a block that has been turned into an object. Because procs are objects, you can store them in variables, pass them to methods, and call them later.
