Indexing means referring to an element of an iterable by its position whereas slicing is a feature that enables accessing parts of the sequence. The index () method returns the index of the first occurence of a substring in the given string. It is same as the find () method except that if a substring is not found, then it raises an exception. Definition and Usage The index() method finds the first occurrence of the specified value. The index() method raises an exception if the value is not found. The index() method is almost the same as the find() method, the only difference is that the find() method returns -1 if the value is not found. (See example below)
