He is most notable for playing the role of Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones (2013-2019). He is the son of actors Lieselotte Holmene and Erik Hivju, a prominent character actor who appeared with his son in the short film Flax, where Kristofer shared screenwriting credit with director Bård Ivar Engelsås. After some time, his agent met the show’s casting director, Nina Gold and showed him Kristofer Hivju’s photographs, who was preparing to audition for the Irish-Canadian TV show, ‘Vikings.’ Impressed by his photos, Kristopher was called for an audition and later, selected for the role.
