I've just installed it from source to the latest version (4.2.8) and now would like to force SSL. Feb 6, 2014 · Instead of reconfiguring the web server, you can re-wash everything putting your phpmyadmin behind a load balancer, e.g. nginx which will take care (upon SSL configuration) to proxy your http phpmyadmin into an https service. Users of port forwarding or complex reverse proxy setup might need to set this. A good test is to browse a table, edit a row and save it. There should be an error message if phpMyAdmin is having trouble auto–detecting the correct value.
