Web Reference: Sep 20, 2008 · There is no recursion in the real-world. Recursion is a mathematical abstraction. You can model lots of things using recursion. In that sense, Fibonacci is absolutely real-world, as there are quite some real-world problems that can be modeled this way. If you think that Fibonacci is not real-world, than I would claim that all other examples are abstractions as well, not real-world examples. Recursion is a tree, with branches and leaves, called parents and children respectively. When you use a recursion algorithm, you more or less consciously are building a tree from the data. For fibonacci recursive solution, it is important to save the output of smaller fibonacci numbers, while retrieving the value of larger number. This is called "Memoizing". Here is a code that use memoizing the smaller fibonacci values, while retrieving larger fibonacci number. This code is efficient and doesn't make multiple requests of same function.
